evening in the city
dark already at five o'clock

cold, crisp city night
people hurrying
walking
driving

skating

illluminated
energized
by the city light

bright light

soft light

pastel light

reflected light

frost-filtered light

city light
vibrant light
city life

but
i quickly tire of
city light
city life

i long to return to
quiet light
soft light
dark night

home

today, i
walked in a moody,
mysterious,
monochrome world

of dark grey trees,
bereft of leaves

of branches
clad in lacy white frost

of rich black earth
carpeted in soft white snow

of expansive prairie skies
cloaked in dove-grey silk

all hidden
behind a veil
of wispy,
misty,
pale grey fog

tonight, i
sit in a moody,
mysterious,
monochrome world
of black
and white

night

she is ...
night time
quiet time
alone time
she is ...
awake
late
while the rest of the world
sleeps
And in the night,
she is ...
reaching out, touching the darkness,
grasping it, clasping it to her heart
she is ...
reaching out, gathering the stars,
grasping them, clasping them to her soul
she is ...
breathing deeply, inhaling the silence
the calming balm of quiet
late at night
she is ...
whole,
complete,
one with the night
